Artist Statement

ARTIST STATEMENT

Dorothy Doherty is a visual artist with an emphasis on drawing, painting, mixed media and ceramics. She is particularly concerned with the effect humans have on the natural environment. Inspired by an innate curiosity and a desire to make art responsibly, her work is a platform for experimentation and discovery. Informed by the over-consumption of consumer goods and the fast pace of modern life, the resulting art is the consequence of an encounter with the materials and the desire to resolve material, aesthetic and creative challenges. Her botanical work reflects this philosophy, as she continues to find new ways to express insights into nature and encounters with the botanical world.
