CERAMICS
Dorothy Doherty studied ceramics at the Vancouver School of Art under the well-known artist and sculptor, Robert Weghsteen. Later, as a mature student, she worked with the talented Sam Kwan at Capilano University. In addition, she has taken many workshops to update her skills. She has taught workshops throughout the province of BC., and
credit courses at Cariboo College (now Thompson Rivers University).
Her ceramics take many forms, ranging from the utilitarian to the sculptural. Most of her work is fired at cone 10 in a reduction atmosphere in gas kilns, but her preferred methods of firing are soda, wood, raku, and primitive or pit firing. Her recent work is fired in the outdoor kilns at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts in Burnaby, BC.
